The Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) programme aims to strengthen the international position of these three Dutch creative disciplines on a long-term basis, by joining forces within the field and developing interrelated projects and activities. This autumn, the groundwork for enduring relationships is laid in Mumbai and Shanghai, while Dutch design, fashion and architecture highlight the NY400 festivities.
Meet the Dutch @ Kyoorius Designyatra in Mumbai
Dutch design visited the Kyoorius Designyatra conference in Mumbai where the Netherlands was partner country this year. Dutch speakers on architecture, advertising and visual communication, a multidisciplinary Dutch Design Delegation complemented by matchmaking sessions, Design Dialogues debates developing an agenda for further dialogue, research and collaborative projects in the coming years, you can download the leaflet with the complete Dutch activities and read an inside report on our Mumbai blog.

Dutch Profiles premiere
The series of short documentaries about architects and graphic, product and fashion designers in the Netherlands titled Dutch Profiles is online. Dutch Profiles focuses on the conceptual, context-oriented and research-based practice of Dutch designers and includes interviews with: 2012Architects, Claudy Jongstra, Gerard Unger, Paul Mijksenaar, Philips and Marlies Dekkers. Up to 100 profiles will be added during the coming years.

Pioneers of Change in New York
Pioneers of Change showcases fashion, design and architecture in and around eleven Officer's houses at Nolan Park on Governors Island in New York. This will take place during the final festivities week of NY400. Pioneers of Change, curated by Renny Ramakers of Droog Design, encourages a more responsible and sustainable approach to the way we live, focussing on qualities that are hard to come by nowadays, such as space, fresh air, respect, care, silence, slowness and time. Dutch Design Works @ SICIW in Shanghai
Under the title Dutch Design Works, the Netherlands will participate in the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week (SICIW) with a presentation of offices in all disciplines involved in the process of designing public space: architecture, urbanism and landscape design, planning, product design and graphic design. A simultaneous matchmaking programme is accessible for all creative disciplines. The Dutch Day takes place on October 17 and starts off with a Chinese-Dutch conference on good practice in public space design.
October 15 - 22
Incubator programme
The SICIW event in Shanghai also marks the start of an incubator programme for Dutch architects, designers and fashion designers in Shanghai. The incubator will house design companies that seek to enter the Chinese market and proposes to support their first endeavours in this challenging environment with a programme targeted towards local outsourcing, local regulations, government networks and business setup. Concurrently, the incubator programme will support Chinese designers and companies who wish to develop a stronger relationship with The Netherlands.

Social Energy in Shanghai
The exhibition Social Energy, Contemporary Communication Design from the Netherlands, shows the work of eleven Dutch graphic designers including Karel Martens, Studio Dumbar, Lust, Irma Boom, and Mooren & Van der Velden. Social Energy was curated by Li Degeng, Jiang Hua and Wang Min (Dean) of the Graphic Design faculty of CAFA, Beijing. The show's title reflects their view of Dutch graphic design as a form of social production, reflecting the social concern of the individual designer as well as the characteristics of Dutch society.
October 10 - 25
100% Design Shanghai
The 100% Design Shanghai fair offers an independent platform for companies working in interior architecture and design. Together with 100% Design Shanghai, the DutchDFA programme supports Dutch companies wishing to participate in this fair with a fee discount. Besides this, DutchDFA provides speakers for the 100% Design conference and will include the fair in its promotion campaign during SICIW.

| The Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) programme, which runs from 2009 through 2012, aims to strengthen the international position of the three Dutch creative disciplines on a long-term basis by joining forces within the field. DutchDFA is a unique collaboration between public and private partners, drawing together representatives of the Dutch Ministries of Economic Affairs, of Education, Culture & Science and of Foreign Affairs, sector-specific organisations such as Premsela and the Netherlands Architecture Institute, as well as the Office of the Chief Government Architect, and professional associations including the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA), the Association of Dutch Interior Architects (BNI) and MODINT (trade association for fashion, interior design, carpets and textiles), as well as the Dutch creative hubs of Amsterdam, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. | |
