The Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) programme aims to strengthen the international position of these three Dutch creative disciplines on a long-term basis, by joining forces within the field and developing interrelated projects and activities. Dutch Design Works named Best Exhibition
During the closing ceremony of the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week (SICIW) on October 21, the Dutch presentation, entitled Architecture & Public Space, received the Award for Best Exhibition of SICIW 2009. The jury acknowledged the serious and high-quality content, which showcases work by distinguished Dutch architecture offices and the clever exhibition design by Daan Bakker of DAF-Architects, including its innovative use of sustainable materials. During the SICIW, high-ranking Shanghai government officials came to see the exhibition several times, bringing along different colleagues for each visit. The multi-disciplinary programme Dutch Design Works, including this exhibition, conference, matchmaking and fashion show counted 12,000 visitors.
Dutch Profiles, one month on
Completing a number of 20 short documentaries about Dutch architects and graphic, product and fashion designers, Dutch Profiles of Hella Jongerius, Royal Tichelaar and Benthem Crouwel are launched this week. After the premiere of Dutch Profiles at DesignYatra in Mumbai, visitors of the NY400 festivities in New York and the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven were able to view the first group of in total 100 series of short documentaries on the white screen. Willem van der Sluis is showing his profile at the Rotterdam Design Prize exhibition, while Joost Grootens is using his portrait to further explain his work in an exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia. The low-res versions are available for streaming via the web. Over 15,000 unique viewers have already visited the films on YouTube and on www.dutchprofiles.com.
Looking Forward to China
Starting with the Business of Design Week (BoDW) in Hong Kong (November 30 to December 5) a delegation of Dutch design professionals will participate in the Dutch mission to China. Subsequently the Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture will start at December 5, followed by HongKong Fashion Week from 18-21 January 2010.At the start of the 2010, the Dutch Design WorkSpace will officially open in Shanghai. This three-year incubator programme, initiated by DutchDFA, will support designers who aim to enter the Chinese market as well as Chinese designers who are interested in developing a closer relationship with the Netherlands. |

| The Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) programme, which runs from 2009 through 2012, aims to strengthen the international position of the three Dutch creative disciplines on a long-term basis by joining forces within the field. DutchDFA is a unique collaboration between public and private partners, drawing together representatives of the Dutch Ministries of Economic Affairs, of Education, Culture & Science and of Foreign Affairs, sector-specific organisations such as Premsela and the Netherlands Architecture Institute, as well as the Office of the Chief Government Architect, and professional associations including the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA), the Association of Dutch Interior Architects (BNI) and MODINT (trade association for fashion, interior design, carpets and textiles), as well as the Dutch creative hubs of Amsterdam, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. | |
